Had to replace the alternator because of problem with connecting wire at
alternator. I also have installed a remote radar detector under front
nose behind black cowling with remote display unit between center
console and passenger seat. I had to replace the clutch about a year into
ownership. I also had to replace the timing belt once, it came off during
a down shift.
Description: This car has been stored since 1990. The truth is after the second time the timing belt came off instead of taking it in and having it repaired. I decided to repair it myself. Get this I can get the car to turn over but I have never got it to start since then. I gave up in 1991. I decided to let the car set for 20yrs. The only work I have done to it in that time besides waxing it 3 times a year and covering it with a car cover is replace all brake pads and rebuild all calipers front and back. I put Mobile One in this car since the first oil change, so I don't expect to have any problems with the engine, when I finally decide to get it started. The car is mint accept for the bug chips on the front nose and on the trim above the window. The car has never been driven in the winter and was located in Maryland while I was driving it. I changed the speedometer because the I could bury the needle and still keep accelerating, but after changing to the 140MPH speedo, I found that I could bury that needle too. I would make the run between DC and Buffalo NY in less than 4 hours. The coolest thing about the car was I could out accelerate any car on the road going up a mountain, I never had so much fun driving a car since driving them mountains in PA. My favorite destination with the car was always Ocean City Maryland.
I can say this unequivocally. I have owned some hot cars. There only one American car better ever produced a 1973 Grande AM which I have also have owned twice, but overall the 87 Turbo Coupe is a better performing and riding car.
