Description: |
I
purchased
my '84
turbo
coupe in
March of
1985. I
had
passed
by it at
the
dealership
for
months
and just
couldn't
hold out
any
longer.
It was
my first
new car.
I love
the
styling
as much
today as
I did
then. In
the
spring
of 1988
I
married
my
lovely
wife who
insisted
that
this was
not a
"family"
car. I
made a
few
half-hearted
attempts
to sell
the car
in the
fall of
1988,
but
received
no
legitimate
offers.
Certain
that the
styling
of this
car
would
one day
make it
a
collectable,
I pulled
it into
my
garage.
I
blocked
the car
up and
periodically
would
start
the car
with a
remote
battery,
and
allow
the car
to run
in gear.
This car
sat
uncovered
in my
garage
for 14
years.
While my
wife
insisted
that I
had the
mid-life
crisis
thing
going
on, last
spring I
felt it
was time
to get
the car
out and
on the
road
again.
While I
had
changed
fluids
and the
engine
oil, on
a
routine
basis,
and
attempted
to
maintain
fresh,
stabilized
fuel in
the fuel
tank,
time and
moisture
had
taken
its
toll!
Upon
driving
the car
a 1/4
mile to
my local
mechanic's
garage
the fuel
filter
was
plugged
solid.
We
agreed
that
dropping
the fuel
tank was
probably
our
first
order of
business.
The fuel
tank was
beyond
interior
coating
or
repair.
I
replaced
the fuel
tank,
in-tank
fuel
pump,
exhaust
system,
rear
wheel
brake
cylinders,
a/c
condenser
seals,
wires,
plugs,
tires,
and all
fluids.
By June
I had
the car
back on
the
road.
The car
has been
running
great
and
December
1,
returned
to its
former
spot in
my
garage.
My 14
year old
son has
shown a
certain
degree
of
interest
as of
late, do
you
suppose.....???
