Maintenance Upgrades: New brakes all around with 73mm front calipers, SS braided hose, rotors,
EBC Green brake pads, new wheel bearings, and new fill brake fluid. Rebuilt T5 trans, flywheel turned,
Star Spec Stage 3 - 2 Disc and pressure plate, new trans mount. New Motorcraft PRC struts, shocks, and
strut mounts, Polygraphite front sway bar bushings and end-links, New rear coil springs and isolators.
Rebalance driveshaft with new heavy-duty U-Joints. All Engine gaskets replaced. Rebuilt distributor with
Motorcraft parts, Fresh tune-up with Motorcraft parts, new Motorcraft TPS and IAC, new Gates timing belt,
tensioner, and water pump. All Hoses and Belts Replaced, new heater core and AC Conversion to R-134a, new
ignition switch and all locks rekeyed. Flush and fill power steering fluid, Power Flush fuel injectors,
new headlights, parking lights, and side marker lights. All NOS emblems. Stripped car to bare metal,
epoxy primer and DuPont Chromabase Base with Hi-Glamour Clearcoat. Restored original Snowflake wheels,
tires are BF Goodrich T/As 225/60-16VR. 3G Alternator upgrade, 4.10 Rear Axle, Modine 3-Row radiator,
Stainless Steel 3" downpipe, Eastern Stainless Steel high performance cat, Magnaflow dual Stainless Steel
2" Exhaust, Walbro 255 HP fuel pump, Gillis Boost valve set to 18 psi, K&N cone filter, Alpine
9805 CD player with Alpine amp, Boston Acoustics component front speakers and 6x9 3-way in the rear.
New Headliner and Sunvisors, recovered leather seats, Silverstar headlamp and Foglight Bulbs.
Future Mods (parts are on the shelf): Polished Head by Pete D, Ranger Roller or AMS Roller Cam, Ported and polished lower intake, gutted upper intake, cleaned & flow-tested injectors, polished or chromed Snowflake wheels (when I find time to do them).
I tried to find the original TC I bought new from Ford in 1987 for over a year. Unfortunately,
it was sent to the crusher 3 weeks before I located the owner. So I bought this non-running
'88 TC for $250 and restored it to showroom condition. It is exactly like my old '87, even
down to the Alpine stereo system. The only difference is the year - it's an 88.
I finished the restoration of the car at 10:00 am on the morning of the first day of the 2004 Carlisle All-Ford Nationals and was on the show field by 1:00 pm. I was excited to be at the show with my newly-restored TC, and was happy with the reactions and compliments I received from all the NATO members on the car. It was a great weekend that got even better when I was able to get Barry Meguiar of the Car Crazy TV show to the NATO Area and have an interview with him. He also interviewed 2 other NATO members and we all made it onto the show. I was in TC Heaven that weekend.
The Car has been a vehicle used for many special family functions. My two daughters and wife have gone on trips to Drive-In movies, and to different Car Shows during the summer. It has actually brought them into the Car hobby that I enjoy so much. We now do these things as a family instead of me going by myself.
Finally, I love to drive this car. It has so much more power than my original one had. I will go out on a Saturday morning and for an hour I will forget about everything. I'll wind-up the Turbo and run thru the gears and have a smile on my face the entire time. I guess when I get behind the wheel, I feel like I'm a kid again and am having fun. The acceleration in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear is incredible. It's my escape from the world even if it's only for a short time.
