Well,
I was a senior in
high school last
year driving a 1982
VW Rabbit that I had
bought for 200 bucks
when my grandmother
asked me to help her
sell her
Thunderbird.
Needless to say the
first time I got
behind the wheel the
thing was as good as
sold. I was able to
sell my Volkswagen
to get enough money
to buy the TBird.
(And don't get me
wrong - I loved my
VW and put a TON of
work into that car.
It was NOT an easy
decision, but of
course the TBird
won...) The
TBird had been used
at a farm on and off
and was terribly
dirty inside and out
(horse hair in the
air filter canister,
chunks of mud
everywhere, etc.)
After good cleanup
and some minor
repairs, it ran like
a top. Since getting
the car a year ago I
have had only two
big things go wrong;
my ignition module
went out last
semester at NC
State, and over
Christmas break I
had to have the 3-4
shift solenoid in
the tranny's valve
body replaced to fix
a problem with the
OverDrive. Other
than that it runs
like a dream ! for a
car with over
100,000 miles. The
car has quite a
history, and
hopefully I will be
able to keep it on
the road for a good
while to come. I
will miss my VW and
wish I could've kept
both cars, but the
TBird is one
incredibly awesome
car, and I wouldn't
trade it for
anything on the
road, save maybe a
1969 Dodge Charger.
My future plans
include new paint
and a tranny rebuild
whenever I can get
together the money.
On the humerous
side, I would be
willing to bet I am
the only TC in the
group running AC
Delco resistor spark
plugs! ha ha
